Citronella Oil- How do i use it to get rid of the flying insects in my garden?

I read a question about how to get rid of spiders in the garden on yahoo answers and someone replied back saying 'spray some citronella oil on the plants and this should help'.

I just wanted to know, do i need to dilute the oil with some water before i spray it or is there any other ways that i have to do it? please help, any advice would be helpful.

Citronella Oil- How do i use it to get rid of the flying insects in my garden?
We used citronella candles when we had a boat. A few placed around the stern area when we were sitting out , got rid of all flying insects.
Reply:it's the odor that keeps away, not the oil
Reply:i use citronella candles when i am sat out in the garden in the evening and they do work on the flying insects . they also smell gorgeous.
Reply:well you have 2 clean always your garden and beware of tiny animals and wild animals....
Reply:I would chase them around the garden, trying to hit them with the bottle.
Reply:Burn it in lamps around the area where you are sitting. They can be bought at garden centres very cheaply
Reply:You can burn citronella oil in a oil burning lamp and the fumes repel the flying beasties. Ideally you need 3 or 4 lamps around the zone of your garden you want to keep clear.

You can also buy citronella candles for the same effect.
