The basilisk lizard can walk on water, and so can some spiders, but no one worships them?

why not, shouldn't we at least consider them semi-devine according to christian tradition? and what about aphids that turn plant material into sugar and feed a multitude of ants.

The basilisk lizard can walk on water, and so can some spiders, but no one worships them?
I worship them in a fetish sort of way
Reply:Is your name Renfield?
Reply:Chris Angel can walk on water too...

So should we worship any street magicain for preforming "supernatural" stunts?
Reply:good question. Because God told us not to worship anything but him, I guess, and the lizards and spiders and things never told anyone they are divine.
Reply:Durrrrrrr
Reply:Because such acts would not fall under the realm of "miracles". For all three of the examples you cite, there are scientific reasons for why they are possible. In the first two, the ability of those animals to not break the tension of water is part of their natural form. Humans, on the other hand, are not able to do the same thing (without aid), since we are both too heavy and our weight is not dispersed in the same fashion as these two animals. So, for Jesus to walk on water would have been miraculous, since according to the laws of nature, humans should not be able to do that. The same sort of logic carries over to the aphid example as well.

Also, it should be noted that not everyone who preforms miracles is worshiped, like the Catholic saints, the apostles, etc. Jesus is sort of the exception to that rule.
Reply:so you're saying that the sole reason that christians are christians is because jesus walked on water? contrary to popular belief there are chtistians who are logical and rational thinkers and just because a group of people have beliefs different from your beliefs doesn't make them bad people. true the church and organized religion on a whole has a bad reputation of being non logical whose members are sheep (which for the most part true). however, on the other hand, following pure simple logic is exactly the same thing. if people who believe in a higher power exist in a box simply because they operate and view the world through a set of rules, then those who depend on pure logic depend on a set of rules also (sheep like the others then). some people believe that the universe exists and operates solely through what is seen and can be calculated. so instead of considering the possibilities of the unseen, some believe that the possibilities must not exist because they are incalculable and cannot be seen? hmmmm.

if a group of people operate by a certain set of rules, and believe in some unseen power then to others they are superstitious. however, if these superstitious beliefs work for them, if they follow these superstitions and good things happen to them, and if they live a certain way which tells them to treat others a certain way and these good things happen to others, then are their superstitious beliefs working? just because something cannot be seen doesn't mean that it cannot be experienced. some people have intense experiences (which can be anything from a simple realization of the presence of the higher power or a serious saving experience) which others call may call schizophrenia. it is this experiencewhich causes people to gravitate towards believing in a higher power.

there is something that permeates each of us and this presence exists only by itself. not only existing in us, it exists around us; it penetrates everything from matter which we can touch and see(which exists) to empty space (which exists also). if this thing exists in us, then it knows it exists because we know we exist and it has the ability to look at itself (we are made of the same substance the universe is, so when we look at the universe, the universe is looking back at itself). we have the ability to talk with this universal presence whether it be prayer, worship, meditation, etc. we acknowledge it; it acknowledges us. maybe it makes attempts to talk to us through individuals who truly know its presence (Jesus, Abraham, Muhammad, Gautama Buddha, etc). all im trying to say is that there are things in the universe and outside of it which we cannot explain, and to simply say that these things must not exist because we cant see them is operating within a box which makes those people just as close minded as religions.

oh, im also a biologist by the way just in case people thought that i may be a bible thumper or something (im am christian though)

hope this helps
Reply:All life is divine. . .even plants. They wouldn't be able to flourish at all without being a spark of that divine fire.

Humans wear that spark more prominently than other species, but to those who know, all life is the Lord's child, and the Lord Him (Her) self.
Reply:That is because that is their natural GOD-GIVEN ability. Men are unable to walk on water, but Jesus, fully God and fully man, did so.
Reply:theres no such thing as semi-divine, either it is or isn't. I don't think a lizard can give his life to save all of humanity and spare us the fires of hell. but go ahead and worship a lizard.... good luck with that.
Reply:Because they are but created things, like us.
Reply:Then worship them then. Why ask us?
Reply:if that's the case ,how come we cant fly..please!!
Reply:You need to look at the one who made them to walk on water peter to walk on water to meet his Lord there but when he took his eyes off the Lord he began to sink. If you have enough faith any thing is possible.
Reply:In the early part of the last century tires would spin out on water of any kind until they invented the 'all weather' or 'rain' tire! Somehow I can't see praying to that, there was a preacher who told his wife "We have enough beer cans in the parking lot to build a car!" She told him, "And there's enough rubbers there for tires!" Bwaaaahahahaha

Reply:Semi-divine would be a problem. Beyond this, if "walking on water" is so easy, why haven't others really done this? And what those spiders do, essentially, is float. What human does that? And the lizards run across the water. oops.
