Can i still use an aquarium for a pet gecko?

i was informed that for small animals such as spiders and geckos as pets, i should keep them in a terrarium. i plan on using my 30 gallon aquarium for my future pet gecko. would this be suitable or do i have to use a terrarium? in addition, i thought terrariums were for plants?

Can i still use an aquarium for a pet gecko?
An aquarium is much like a terrarium, except it has thicker glass, silicon is done better, and it is meant to hold water. You can buy screen tops for aquariums as well, so they can be used to house reptiles.

People generally use terrariums due to the cost (often less than aquariums). Some come with slide in tops, which can lock. This is an excellent feature if you are housing an escape artist. Aquariums have clips that can be purchased for screen lids as well.
Reply:hi there

yes a tank is fine for gecko's .. don't use sand or heat rocks causes to many problems and can be dangerous..

but u will need to get a locking lid, uva %26amp; uvb lights ...

non particle substrate is the best ... private hides, water etc...

pointer: do some research on the type ur thinking on getting before you get it .. don't stop at just one website and /or book.. check many everyone has their option on how to raise geckos .. pick what you think is best....

P.S. even pet stores can be wrong.. best to get advice from a reputable reptile store or breeder...that strictly deal with reptiles ...

hope this helps... good luck on your new pet...
Reply:Yes an aquarium is fine, i put my gecko in there but put a lid on it as they sneek out at night and are hard to catch. And feed them brown crickets not black as they cannot digest the black ones.

Reply:Yup, an aquarium is fine s'long as it is properly heated and secure so they that can't get out! Sneaky lil buggers and hard to catch!

(:
Reply:yes just clean out the tank very good and get wired cage top
Reply:well terarriums are used for warmth and heat that is basically powered in the tank

but if you use an aqaurium you would have to by a lamp heater and a heater rock which in the long run would end up bing more expensive so if you get a gecko i do hope that you buy a terarrium because they are safer and more energy efficent
