Big spider!?

This spider is living in my plumeria, plant. She has laid an egg packet, and is about 1/2 inch long, light stone color with black stripped legs. Very big abdomen. She laid an egg packet, which is bigger than her, and is yellow with spikes all over. Should I be worried about all the eggs? Do you think she is posionous? I killed 4 black widows in the past 2 months, I guess the heat is bringing all the spiders out! What should I do about her? I posted a pic, of her egg packet but if you look closely you can see her leg, unable to get a pic of her, she's kinda camera shy! BTW I live in SO CAL

Big spider!?
Sounds like you may have a Brown Widow Spider camped outside. Although their venom is dangerous, they are not aggressive at all, thus it's camera shyness. Studies have shown that the venom of a Brown Widow is more potent than that of a Black Widow, but being smaller, it injects much less of it. Bites are rarely dangerous from this spider and as I said earlier, it will not bite unless seriously threatened.

A sure give away are the spikes on the spider's egg sac. It is one of the only spiders that forms a sac like you described.

I would be careful around this spider, but do not kill it. I could not tell if this spider is in your house or not. I know that I would try to catch it and let it go, if it was. But I like and study spiders. You have to do what you feel is right. It is not going to attack you and is doing you good by living their as it gets rid of a lot of the nasties that you really do not want around.

Here are some pics......

Reply:Sounds like a typical garden spider. Their bite is of low risk (not toxic) to humans. They are a non-aggressive group of spiders and seldom bite people.

Does she look like this?
