Any Vietnam era veterans here? I went to the V.A. med clinic today.......................?
for the 3rd time for a problem I've had for the last year and they keep telling me it is insect bites. I've bug bombed the house, pulled ALL the plants around the house, and sprayed the inside and out side of the house once a month for the last year.I keep getting boils on various parts of my body and I'm starting to think it may be service connected and they don't want me to know. I have good personal hygine,my house is very clean and tidy, and I don't have any bugs, spiders or otherwise. Could this be something that I picked up in S.E.Aisa that has laid dormant untill now? Anybody else experience anything similar? Any help at all, I would be grateful.

Why does Australia have the most venomous everything?
Seems the Aussies have the worst of everything...spiders, snakes, ants...yada. Why? It has to be something to do with the animals diet. Could it be the plants there? The way venom and poison work are usually through the animals diet. There is no doubt, Australia is one seriously mysterious place.
Why does Australia have the most venomous everything?
they have a large desert, a lot of poisonous animals are in deserts. its hard to find prey so if you bite something they can run away but not if you poison it .
Reply:Probably an adaptation to catching prey. The faster a poison acts, the less likely it will get away. In desert areas, food might be scarce, letting any get away would be detrimental.
We are lucky in Australia that tourists have now become a food source for our more dangerous animals, such as Great White Sharks, Taipans and the deceptively cuddly Koalas.
Reply:Good question. I really don't know why, but we do have a unique collection of animals not found elsewhere in the world. Perhaps it is (as already has been suggested) due to the fact that Australia was one of the last places discovered, we do have a lot of dry arid country, we also have (or had before the fires) a large amount of rugged bushland where lots of animals could live in safety from humans. My guess is they evolved with the times, instinct kicked in along with the venoms to allow the animals to play their particular roles in the food chain. I really don't know if it has anything to do with the plants, as some of our venomous creatures are not plant eaters, and the animals that they eat are not all plant eaters either...
Reply:Probably, it's because people didn't discover Australia until later...
Reply:That seems about right. As for why, I don't have a clue. Might be due to the harsh environment. Most of the real poisonous creatures tend to habitate the northern (tropical) regions of Australia, and the deserts. The box jellyfish inhabits the northern coastline during the summer. Same with the blue ringed octopus. The funnel web spider tends to inhabit the Sydney region. Unfortunately the snakes tend to be everywhere. it helps if you know a bit about them, and how to avoid them.
Reply:Australia is one of the oldest continents.poison evolves to immobilize pray quickly to ensure them getting the meal, without it escaping them. The longer a species is around the more highly evolved it can become.Adaptation to ones environment.Irukandji jellyfish is 2.5 centimeter and it is the most deadlist thing there.Human differences, adaptation to ones environment, but there is only 1 human now.We are all the same with different wrappers.
Reply:My personal theory is this,
Australia was one of (or close to it) the last large continents conquered by man, i.e. animals ruled there the longest,
In nature the most deadly animals surivive, therefore on the least human populated land masses with the longest time frame of being "unspoiled" for lack of a better word, you'll find the deadliest of all creatures.
Just a theory. nice question.
Reply:They have it reakl rough
Reply:Because Australian animals are subjected to extreme conditions, and the poisonous animals evolved increasingly deadly venom to preserve it's own kind.
Reply:Limited and fast moving resources spur the arms race.
I can hardly belive the egomania that inspired any response that had anything to do with humans, or the "disovery" of AU. (like it was lost or something)
One: Humans had NOTHING to do with why venom is developed
Two: Humans existed fairly harmoniously on AU LONG before any white settlers came along....go read a damn book, geesh!
Reply:We do have a lot of venomous creatures in Australia, but you don't exactly trip over them walking to the shops.
And none of these creatures carry guns or mace - so I feel a lot safer here thanks!

Homemade Organic Bug Killers???!!!???
I just planted carrots, cantaloup, watermelon, strawberries, and oregon snow peas. I have them in raised beds. I can see bug holes in the melon dirt mounds! There are earwigs, ants of all different breeds, spiders, and lord only knows what some of the other bugs are.
My beds are surrounded with river rock, the bugs crawl under the rocks and makes nests in the mulch and dirt underneath.
What can I do to kill these bugs before they kill my garden???!!!???
(I also have pets, so it needs to be non-toxic)
Homemade Organic Bug Killers???!!!???
Planting marigolds around and thru out your garden will help. Also, as your plants flower, deadhead them(snap the flowers off) and put them in a jar of water in the sun. In a few days or so, spray the water thru out your garden also. This also is a good remedy for any backyard activities you might have such as BB Q's, etc.
Also, releasing ladybugs will help control many of the bugs in your garden. You can buy them from your local nursery and they are very inexpensive
Reply:Soapy Water Use Dish Soap in a spray bottle spray the plants directly if there are slugs use Salt
Reply:Years ago, we grew tomatoes and they had to be organic due to health problems. We were told to use tobacco juice. We got a can of the loose leaf tobacco (Prince Edward or something like that!) and boiled a gallon of water and "brewed" some of the loose tobacco leaves in it (made it look like coffee though) then strained it into a spray bottle and sprayed it on. It is best to water your plants first, and then spray the plants thoroughly. It is something you need at least once or twice a week. If it rains, you need to respray. Worked very well for us!
Reply:most bugs are cool-dont kill any spiders-for bug juice -go-species specific-lots of insect growth regulaters out there-lots of time you can just use dish soap-take bugs one at a time and if you dont know than holler-if not me than someone else-lots of love keep the peace old hippie
Reply:nicotine is a natural insecticide. get some old ciggy butts and put into water, let stand(sorta like making sun tea). strain out the floaters and pour into sprayer. it will smell bad.
Reply:Take a thin piece of leather (or other material of your choice), thread another piece of leather in one end, fastening the other ends down when pulled taut. Place on foot. Squash.
